Mike Garside made buid this boat for the race Around Alone of 1998.

The hull is moderated in its proportions with a great freeboard at bow not to dig in.

The bottom of the boat is in stiffened monolithique by ribbands well to resist to the impacts, the topsides and the deck are in sandwich nomex.

The keel is swivel, administered by 2 jacks.
In normal navigation, the angle of the keel is 35°, in the exceptional conditions called security conditions, the angle has been rised to 45°.

The boat is built by JMV Industries in Cherbourg, according to the same technique than Géodis: hull in preimpregnated carbon at 120° with the bottom in monolithique and the topsides in carbon nomex sandwich as the deck.

Having joined England, it took the departure of the Atlantic Alone race at Falmouth.

They were 5 boats from Falmouth, on July 5, 1998, to join Charleston in South Carolina: three 60 ' and two 50 '. 4 of them were conceived by the Groupe Finot.

Magellan and CCP Cray Valley, in the class of the 50 feet, offered us a very beautiful race:
they had 96 miles of distance in their arrival to Charleston on a course of 3500 miles! Magellan arrived 2-nd on 1st of August at 14h17 behind CCP Cray Valley.

- Mike Garside on Magellan is 2-nd in class II in the Around Alone 98-99 race>
